Shameless

When the US versions of Shameless, Skins and Being Human were announced, I rolled my eyes in disgust. Why can’t US tv companies think up new ideas instead of rehashing old British ones?

However when I watched Shameless I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’d go so far as to say it’s been my favorite show this tv season. The reason it works so well is the core Gallagher family. Despite most of the actors being in their teens they are actually really good and their affection for each other comes across as genuine, especially in the fraternal relationship of Lip and Ian.

Despite having some completely bonkers plot lines the main story of the season is just a poor, dysfunctional family on the wrong side of the tracks struggling to get by while dealing with issues of sexuality, education and morality.

I can’t wait for season two.

And then Santana telling Britney she loves her only to be rejected? Heartbreaking.

Kurt’s Dad giving him ‘The Talk’ on this weeks Glee warmed the cockles of my cold, cold heart.

I wonder if I can manage to catch up on Dexter before the season finale next Sunday. I’m currently on episode two and the finale is episode twelve. I think it can be done!

The Walking Dead

I’ve been looking forward to seeing the tv adaptation of The Walking Dead since it was announced Andrew Lincoln would be in the lead role. I loved him in Teachers and Love Actually and he’s one of those understated actors that always takes up the screen. However when I learned he’d have to do an American accept for the part I got worried, Brits cannot do Yank accents well for the most part but he actually pulls it off quite well.

The rest of the episode was pretty good too. I haven’t read the comics so I don’t know where the series is going but so far I like it. The zombie effects are really good too in the few closeups there’s been. From further away they sort of just look like shuffling people bit I guess corners need to be cut somewhere.

If you haven’t seen it but like zombie/supernatural themed tv or movies I think you’ll enjoy it.

Plus Andrew Lincoln gets shirtless so now you have no excuse not to.

Just saw a bus ad for Misfits, it’s returning Thursday 11th November! Can’t wait for that.

My awesome new Doctor Who tee.

I love the House posters, Hugh Laurie has the prettiest eyes.

Sherlock

I watched the first episode of Sherlock last night and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I’ve never liked Sherlock Holmes, I’ve always thought he was a dull character and universe. However with this version Steven Moffat has brought Holmes into the 21st Century and has turned it into a sort of Spooks-esque type show. It also doesn’t hurt that Holmes and Watson are both played by brilliant actors and have a great report, there was even hints that they were both gay!

I’m interested to see how far it’ll go considering there’s only three episodes, hopefully the BBC will commission more episodes if it’s successful.

Doctor Who

Oh my god this weeks Doctor Who was brilliant! I was worried that it’d be slightly in RTD territory since there were multiple enemies but it was really not. I cannot wait to see the conclusion next week and since I’m off work I’ll get to watch it at the same time as Tim and we can both oooooo together!

I wonder if Amy is returning for a second season?

24: The Finale

This season of 24, the final season of 24, was an absolute trainwreck. After seven seasons in which every year there was a mole inside CTU you’d think they’d vet their staff better but no, surprise surprise! It was pretty obvious where it was heading for the season nine it’ll never get: US vs Russia. Will that end up in the possible movie?

I did like that the final timer was actually a countdown.
